The latest edition of Cuttings has some
significant research findings.
The secret of project success is found to be due to human centred factors, which are not normally the focus of project management training or Project Offcies in companies worldwide. In the research carried out in USA, Canada and Australia, Human-Centred factors were cited 3 to 1 relative to analytical factors when looking at project success. Culture overall accounted for 40% of the factors cited with organisational culture is responsible for one quarter of factors cited. Individuals’ leadership skills were cited 3 to 1 over analytical skills, while organisation-wide standard practices were cited only 9% of the time and Facilities and Physical assets account for only 4% of the factors cited.
Other surveys show that coaching is not being used effectively in organisations - many reporting little or no improvement in performance or job satisfaction.
And there are confirmations that Generation Y - the current new workers - are less interested in salary than advancement opportunities and their working environment.
